Honoring Vi-Giam folk singing as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage
A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh square, Nghe An province on January 31 to receive the UNESCO certification for Vi-Giam folk singing of Nghe An and Ha Tinh province as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage.

Vi-Giam folk singing was officially recognised by UNESCO an intangible cultural heritage of humanity at the 9th session of its Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paris on November 27, 2014.
Attending the event, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stressed that the two provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh have creatively preserved and promoted the unique value of the Vi-Giam folk singing, contributing positively to the protection and promotion of value of the national cultural heritage to become a valuable part of the humanity’s cultural heritage.
On behalf of the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam would like to thank UNESCO, international organizations, member countries supported for honouring Nghe Tinh’s Vi-Giam folk singing as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said Vietnam looks forward to more cooperation and assistance from international organisations along with further efforts made by domestic ministries and localities in protecting and promoting the country’s cultural heritage, including Vi-Giam folk singing.
At the event, a national action programme to preserve and uphold values of Vi-Giam folk singing was launched right after the central provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh received the UNESCO certificate honouring the local singing as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage.
