Franz Schubert Cycle
26 and 27 April - After the Pavane op. 50 in F sharp minor of the French composer Gabriel Fauré, VNSO Orchestra will perform the concerto in C minor for Trumpet by Benedetto Giacomo Marcello, Launy Grondahl’s concerto for trombone, and the Symphony No. 1 in D major, D.82 that Franz Schubert composed when he was only 16 years old.
The concert will feature talented artists, including conductor Kim Xuan Hieu, trumpet soloist Pham Van Hieu and trombone soloist Tran Hien.
The VNSO Orchestra will perform the following works: Gabriel Fauré – Pavane op. 50, Benedetto Giacomo Marcello – Concerto in C minor for Trumpet, Launy Grondahl – Concerto for trombone and Franz Schubert – Symphony No. 1 in D major, D.82

Metropole Hanoi Hosts Michelin-Starred Celebrity Chef Christophe Lerouy
28 and 29 Apr - Opportunities to enjoy dinners prepared by the French Michelin-starred chef Christophe Lerouy at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. Chef Christophe Lerouy, will make an appearance at the Sofitel Metropole Legend this month and to welcome the celebrity guest chef, two unique culinary experiences are on offer at the hotel’s French restaurant, Le Beaulieu.

On Apr. 28, as part of the Metropole’s 11th annual Les Aromes festival, chef Lerouy will for the first time in Hanoi cook up mouthwatering dishes such as warm oysters with torched foie gras, apple wasabi puree, and Iberico ham stock. On Apr. 29, chef Lerouy teams up with the Metropole’s chef de cuisine Olivier Genique to cook a five-course feast with each chef preparing two courses featuring ingredients including seafood from Japan and beef from Argentina.
Open to both hotel guests and non-hotel guests, dinner is priced at VND1.8million++ per person.

“Lingering at the Peculiar Pavilion” – Solo Exhibition by Vo Tran Chau
04 Mar - 14 May - Following a six-month residency at San Art in Saigon in mid-2015, Tran Chau created a body of work encompassing embroidered images, fabric sculptures, and a form of mosaic painting rarely seen in Vietnam.

Focusing on long con, the ritual clothing worn by the Nguyen kings, the last emperor dynasty of Vietnam, Tran Chau has managed to link the context of the past with the the present day. Her solo exhibition creates an illusory space between forgetting and remembering, between current affairs and autobiographical elements, to create a discourse on the psychology of the times that seem to embody a recurrent uneasiness, looping between past and future generations.The exhibition is supported by the Danish Embassy (CDEF).
Exhibition “Looking for the Divine Beings”
14 - 28 Apr - Inspired by memories associated with the countryside, by folktales and family fables of Vietnam, the three artists Nguyen Huy An, Nguyen Duc Phuong and Ta Minh Duc share their accounts at the exhibition “Looking for the Divine Beings” at Nha San Collective, 15th floor, Hanoi Creative City Building, 01 Luong Yen, Hanoi, from Apirl 14 through 28.
A network of rivers embraces Vietnam’s northern midlands and lowlands, yielding a terrain that descends from northwest to southeast. The silt-laden plains formed along these rivers provide favorable conditions for agriculture. Such is the ground on which village clusters were established before they became bustling towns. In the same manner, pre-modern Vietnamese architecture, including private residences, communal houses, religious establishments, etc., was also attuned to fit in with their surroundings. Primarily farmers, for whom year-round hardships were the norm, the Vietnamese people of this time venerated their ancestors, tutelary deities, Buddha, and nature – rivers, earth, animals, the tree in front of their house, the earthen stove in their kitchen. In doing so, they voiced their wish for a comfortable life and good weather, hoping that divine beings and the souls of the bygone would watch over them.
