Hanoi’s ten outstanding citizens who have gained excellent achievements contributing to the development of the city and the country were honored at a ceremony on October 5, local media reported.
The event is among the activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the capital city. In its 10th holding, the ceremony drew the attendance of authorities of the Hanoi Party Committee, the municipal People’s Committee, and People’s Council and the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Of those exemplary citizens, Associate Professor, PhD, and Meritorious Teacher Nguyen Thua Hy was commended for his contribution to the Thang Long – Hanoi research, thereby contributing to promoting Vietnam and Hanoi’s history and culture internationally.
Another excellent citizen on the list was teacher Le Thi Hoa, who has taken 26 years teaching children with disabilities and mental retardation and helping them overcome the challenges to integrate into the community.
Another outstanding citizen was Nguyen Thi Thanh Hieu, who for 30 years has been sweeping garbage on Hanoi’s streets making the city cleaner and more beautiful despite her difficulties.
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung stressed that besides the ten “good people, good deeds” examples, there are other silent good accomplishments dedicated the city’s development.
Hanoi became the first and leading locality in mobilizing and holding the “good people, good deeds” movement from 1992, which has been a tradition of the city.
