Five basic colors namely yellow, red, white, green and grey will be available for taxi firms to select and register.
All taxis operating in the capital city of Hanoi may be painted uniform colors by 2026, according to local media.

The Hanoi Department of Transport is consulting with concerned parties to draft a regulation on taxi operations with a view to better controlling the operation of taxis and helping people distinguish legal and unlicensed taxis in the city.

Under the draft decree, five basic colors namely yellow, red, white, green and grey will be available for taxi firms to select and register.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Transport Vu Ha said that after more than 20 years since its inception in the city, currently, more than 19,200 traditional taxicabs operating in the city partly meet the residents’ travel needs.

However, taxi transport has shown many inadequacies in the quality of service affecting traffic order and safety, especially overbilling. Regulations, thus, must be enforced to solve the problems, Ha added.

In order to ensure fair competition and create the best conditions for passengers, Ha said the department will set up a general operating center for all taxi firms in the city.

The regulation will ensure that all types of transport businesses, including ride-hailing service, comply with law.

The operating zone for taxis will be divided into two. The first includes urban districts and the second covers rural areas.

Taxicabs will have to register their operating zone with local authorities and only are allowed to collect passengers in their assigned zone.

The Hanoi Department of Transport will keep consulting with concerned parties before completing the draft decree and submit it to the municipal People’s Committee for approval in late 2019.
