A plaque was unveiled to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2023) and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Long Bien District (November 6, 2003 - November 6, 2023).

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Manh Ha, Chairman of the Long Bien District People's Committee, said that with the aim of developing a modern and civilized urban area and improving the living environment for residents, the district had put emphasis on allocating land and resources to build parks, green spaces, flower gardens, lakes and public facilities, gradually transforming Long Bien into one of the most livable districts in Hanoi.

He added that in 2023, the district has focused on building three new flower gardens, two central parks with lakes, renovating and repairing 15 flower and green spaces, and regularly maintaining 39 flower gardens and plants on median strips.

In addition, the district has implemented various plans to improve the environment, preserve landscapes, and create clean and beautiful green spaces, Ha said.

On the same day, Long Bien District leaders held a ceremony to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Long Bien District and to receive the Third Class Labor Medal.

"With the achievements of the past 20 years, we believe that the Party, the Government and the people of the district will bring into full play their innovation and creativity to build Long Bien into a civilized and modern urban area, contributing to the construction and development of the capital city and the country," Thanh stressed.

Chairman of Long Bien District People's Committee Nguyen Manh Ha said that 20 years ago, Long Bien District was established on a part of Gia Lam District, which was a significant event, a milestone that left a strong imprint on the political, economic, cultural and social life of the capital and especially on the people of Long Bien. In the early days of its establishment, the district faced many difficulties, such as a lack of roads, schools, hospitals and synchronized infrastructure.

Ha said that up to now, Long Bien has achieved important and comprehensive goals in various fields. The district has implemented more than 1,400 projects with a total investment of over VND200 trillion (US$8.1 million), funded by both internal and external sources.

"This has contributed to Long Bien's rapid transformation from a rural district to an urban district. The aspect of urban Long Bien has rapidly changed to become brighter, greener, cleaner, more beautiful and more civilized," he pointed out.

In recent years, the district's administrative reform has received positive feedback from residents and businesses, along with comprehensive and synchronized cultural and social development. Education has been prioritized, resulting in 76 out of 93 schools meeting national standards. Poverty has been eradicated, and national defense and security are consistently maintained. The political system works efficiently and harmoniously from the district to the neighborhood level, according to the district chairman.

"More importantly, the quality of life for residents has been continuously improved over the years, making Long Bien a desirable place to live," he said.

Twenty-one exemplary groups and 20 role models from the district received commendations from the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Long Bien District.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh stressed that the city will focus on the construction and completion of infrastructure with comprehensive and tailored policies to mobilize resources and boost the capital's development.

The mayor highlighted five key tasks for Long Bien District, including promoting and effectively utilizing its comparative advantages unleashing resources to promote socio-economic development. There is also an emphasis on continuous improvement in planning to ensure that infrastructure development is consistent with overall socio-economic planning.

A key focus is the recognition of the Red River as a green axis to promote harmonious urban development on both sides. In addition to national defense and security, the cultural and social sectors, including cultural industries, education and health care, are another priority, while efforts to strengthen Party building and promote a clean political system should be intensified.

"Given the accomplishments of the last 20 years, we are confident that the Party, the government, and the district's residents will keep coming up with new ideas and ways to transform Long Bien into an elite urban area, helping to build and develop the nation's capital city," stressed Thanh.
