Hanoi is focusing on building smart urban areas, thus, the city’s authority is strengthening infrastructure and urban management with high technology towards sustainable development, improving people’s living standards and quality of human resources.
Hanoi is always willing to learn South Korea’s experience on building smart city, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Hung said while hosting Kim Jin Pyo, member of Parliament and former leader the South Korean Democratic Party (2011-2012) on August 7.

Hung noted that Vietnam and South Korea are strengthening cooperation in all fields, from economy and trade to culture and education.

There are about 150,000 South Koreans living and working in Vietnam, of them 70,000 are permanently residing in Hanoi. On that basis, the capital of Vietnam has maintained cooperative relations with South Korea’s capital of Seoul and other provinces since 1996, Hung said.

Hanoi’s government is willing to support South Korea’s enterprises, Hung said, adding that South Korea is the third largest FDI investor in the city, with about 1,871 projects in execution and total investment of US$ 5.3 billion.

Hung stressed that Hanoi is focusing on building smart urban areas, thus, the city’s authority is strengthening infrastructure and urban management with high technology towards sustainable development, improving people’s living standards and quality of human resources.

The vice chairman hoped that Kim Jin Pyo, in his capacity, will connect South Korean partners with Hanoi’s authority to achieve the above-mentioned targets, and share South Korea’s experiences in making labor policy, as well as developing the education sector.

For his part, Kim Jin Pyo believes that the friendly relationship between Vietnam and South Korea is progressing constantly, along with the growth of bilateral trade and investment. So far, numerous South Korean enterprises (some 1,800) have invested in Hanoi, including Samsung Group, which has operations in Hanoi and the surrounding areas.

Kim Jin Pyo wants Hanoi's leaders to support and create favorable conditions for these businesses to operate smoothly in the city.

He expressed his wish to learn more about Hanoi’s orientations, development needs and model of smart city, so that he can help seek potential partners.

With many smart urban projects including the construction of big data centers and high-tech applications in life, South Korea is willing to share experiences in those fields with Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular, Kim Jin Pyo affirmed.
