Of the total, 1.8 million were foreigners, a 15.5% increase from a year earlier, and 5.6 million were domestic tourists, up 9% over the previous year’s period.
Hanoi’s tourism sector is projected to earn VND26.95 trillion (US$1.2 billion) in the three-month period, a rise of 32% year-on-year.
On March alone, the number of visitors to Hanoi is estimated at 2.6 million, representing a year-on-year surge of 12%. Of that amount, 769,231 were foreigners, up 20%, and 1.8 million were domestic holidaymakers, a 9% increase from the same period of 2018.
The city’s key attractions such as Huong Son Tourism Area, Tan Da Spa Resort, Thien Son Suoi Nga Eco-tourism, Duong Lam accient village, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, also saw a surge in visitors in the first quarter this year.
Earlier, Hanoi has been named among the most affordable destinations for 2019 world adventures, according to a list released by Uproxx, an entertainment and popular culture news website.
Vietnam and Hanoi, in particular, should be on everyone’s list of must-see destinations. There’s an atmosphere to the place that grabs you and doesn’t let go. It’s the sort of spot that you may end up spending months in without really noticing. You can grab a bed in a hostel for US$5 a night. Entire apartments go for as little as US$15 a night on Airbnb. This all helps in that “spending a couple of months here” attitude you’ll eventually adopt.
Uproxx advises travelers that the food in Vietnam's capital is phenomenal. Streets are lined with little pop-up restaurants seemingly stacked on top of each other. A US$1 bowl of noodles or pork with rice isn’t out of the question. This is the sort of place where US$5 a day on food can truly last, maybe even with a little change left over. Of course, those prices trickle down to beer, water, and everything else food-related.
