Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications Nguyen Ngoc Ky stressed that Hanoi’s 5G network testing is considered a basis to promote the capital’s electronic government infrastructure.

In the wake of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, Hanoi has determined 2019 will be a breakthrough year in the construction of e-government to create a premise to deploy smart economy, smart transport, smart environment and electronic citizens. These are indispensable components of smart city that Hanoi is aiming for, Ky said.

He added that Hanoi always wants to work with cities around the world, businesses, scientists and people who are willing to apply technology to serve their country and people.

For his part, Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Pereric Högberg affirmed internet and digital technology are core to improve people's lives and establish brand and competitiveness of a country.

In Vietnam, the Vietnamese government has made great efforts to develop e-government, which has earned the international community’s recognition, Högberg said.

He noted that Sweden is currently one of the most innovative countries in the world. The basis of it is promoting creativity and learning about new things. Vietnam can also gain such achievements if it manages to exploit the internet’s potential and opportunities. Internet of Things (IoT) is key to successful implementation, the Swedish ambassador said.

With the theme of "Digital technology for the good", VIF 19 is a forum so that representatives from the Vietnamese government’s agencies, business leaders, academies, NGOs and investors connect and discuss how the internet can contribute to a progressive and creative society.

The topics discussed at VIF19 included smart city, connection and sustainability, e-government for good things, digital citizens using safety technology, social networks and fake information, impacts of technology, among others.

Besides, some notable activities were held at the event such as Youth Internet Governance Forum (YIGF Vietnam), in parallel with Asia-Pacific Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF). The forum aims to raise young people’s awareness of internet governance and encourage the younger generation to participate more actively in the process of discussing internet policies.
