Hanoi to speed up land clearing for key infrastructure projects

The municipal authorities want to speed up the process of acquiring the land and ensuring that the local people get relocated.

Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh has recently asked local authorities to step up efforts to acquire land and clear land for major transportation projects.

Chairman Thanh stressed the importance of preventing the reoccupation of cleared land and maintaining social order in project areas.

He also urged that attempts to resettle people must ensure that their housing, income, and living conditions are the same or better than before.

He urged city officials to enforce laws in a balanced and reasonable manner and to ensure that minor issues do not delay major city projects.

One of the key projects is the upgrading and expansion of National Highway 6, especially the section from Ba La intersection in Ha Dong District to Xuan Mai Town in Chuong My District, which will start construction in December 2022.

The project covers 21.7 km, passing through Ha Dong District (5.9 km) and Chuong My District (15.8 km).

With a total investment of approximately VND9.5 trillion (approximately US$382 million), the project includes widening the route to 50-60 meters with a design speed of 80-100 km/h. The route will have one box culvert and seven bridges.

Expected to be completed by 2027, the project aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve infrastructure connectivity, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Ha Dong and Chuong My districts, as well as Hanoi as a whole.

The road upgrade will also boost connectivity and trade between Hanoi and the northwestern provinces of Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau, as well as neighboring Laos.

Land clearance, however, remains the project's biggest problem. To date, the Chuong My District authorities have handed over 20.48 of the 85 hectares, or 24.1% of the total area. No land has been handed over in Ha Dong District.

The other two major projects are the construction of Ring Road 4 - Capital Region and the Thăng Long Boulevard Expressway connecting National Highway 21 to the Hanoi-Hoa Binh Expressway.
