Hanoi to set up 83 spring flower markets in run-up to Tet
Anh Kiet 07:37, 2023/12/28
Hanoians visit spring flower markets not only to buy flowers, but also to soak up the atmosphere of Tet.

More than 80 spring flower markets will be held in Hanoi during the upcoming traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year [Tet holiday], the country's biggest and most important celebration.

Hanoi will host a wide range of flower markets for 21 days from January 20 to February 9, or from the 10th to 30th day of the 12th lunar month.

The city government has asked the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and the Center for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion to ensure the smooth running of the markets by supervising and coordinating with departments and district People's Committees.

According to the Hanoi People's Committee, safety and order, traffic safety, fire prevention, fire extinguishing, and environmental sanitation must be ensured at flower markets.

Parking areas must be set up at least 100 meters away from the markets. Fees for renting commercial space and parking vehicles at flower markets must be in accordance with the applicable regulations of the local government. Unauthorized flower markets must be closed down.

The Hanoi Department of Transportation is responsible for traffic safety and preventing traffic jams around flower markets, while the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment is responsible for waste collection and environmental sanitation.

Visiting Hanoi's flower markets to buy bonsais, home decorations, or flowers for Tet decorations has become an elegant hobby for many Hanoians, where they not only buy flowers but also enjoy the Tet atmosphere.

The markets open only once a year and offer customers an array of flowers, ornamental plants and fruits, and handicrafts. All of these are typical of the Lunar New Year celebrations.

There will be numerous entertainment activities, safe agricultural and food fairs, and consumer stimulation events. All will provide insights into traditional Tet values and the identity of Hanoi and other provinces.

In addition to traditional flowers and bonsai blossoms such as peach, chrysanthemum, violet, daffodil and kumquat, many imported flowers such as orchids, tulips and hydrangeas will also be on sale. The brilliant flowers help create a vibrant Tet atmosphere in the capital that cannot be found anywhere else in the country.

Lunar New Year is the longest holiday in Vietnam and an important occasion for family reunions. The Lunar New Year holiday in 2024 will start on February 8 and last until February 14, according to the decision of the Vietnamese government.
