Hanoi to apply comprehensive measures for population work and family planning

Hanoi People’s Committee has issued on July 13 the plan to increase population and family planning in Hanoi for the 2016-2020 period.
Under the plan, it is expected that by 2020, Hanoi’s population will reach 8.5 million, demographic  growth rate will be  1.2%, average birth rate to be  reduced 0.1% per year on average, the  rate of women having third child to be reduced  0.1% per year on average,  at least 75% of pregnant women get prenatal screening, the minimum of  85% of newborns are screened,  sex ratio at birth will not  exceed 114 boys per 100 girls and only  8% of children under five years old  suffering malnutrition.
 


 

In order to reach those targets, Hanoi will increase leadership of the governments at all levels as well as participation of agencies and sectors. Population work will be considered as an important part of socio-economic development plan, key mission in working program of the governments, sectors and unions, and one of the most important social, economic targets in annual plan and five-year plan of local governments.

Metropolitan districts and rural districts and  are instructed to  prepare written guiding  on the execution of  the Municipal People’s Council Resolution for  the 2016-2020 period, especially in  reducing the rate of women having third child, improving the  population quality, controlling imbalanced sex ratio at birth, encouraging organizations and individuals to fulfill population policies and handle infractions.

Furthermore, dissemination and education work will be enhanced in different ways according to localities and target groups; priority is given to people in disadvantaged areas  who are facing difficulties to access reproductive health and family planning information and services, ethnic minority areas and areas with high rate of women having third child.
