Hanoi strengthens tourism cooperation with Central Key Economic Zone

Hanoi is committed to working closely and effectively with Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Key Economic Zone in tourism.

The link between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Central Key Economic Zone [comprising five localities of Thua Thien - Hue, Danang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Binh Dinh] is very important in the tourism development of those localities and the whole country.

Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, emphasized the need for closer connection at the preliminary conference on tourism development linkage between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the five localities for 2021-2025 on August 8 in Quang Ngai Province.

After two years of implementation, despite difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the city along with other provinces and cities has actively exchanged information, built new orientations in local tourism development, as well as effectively exploited the values ​​of tourism resources of the region in order to attract more tourists, increase spending and length of stay of tourists.

Thanks to cooperative efforts, the tourism sectors of Hanoi and six cities and provinces have achieved positive results in recent times. In the first six months of 2022, the number of visitors was estimated at nearly 33 million, including nearly one million international arrivals. Tourism revenues were estimated at nearly 87.9 trillion VND ($3.76 billion).

In 2021, the number of tourists was nearly 17.7 million yielding an estimated revenue of more than VND63 trillion (nearly $2.7 billion). 

As a center for the development of the Red River Delta and a key economic region of the north, Hanoi is committed to working closely and effectively with Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Key Economic Zone in tourism in the coming time so that tourism activities will make a worthy contribution to the socio-economic development of each locality, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism said.

Concluding the conference, Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, suggested that Hanoi and other localities need to maintain their achievements and make efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges in the coming time.

Viet underlined: “Leaders of provinces and cities need to make tourism a spearhead economic sector, linking tourism development with conservation and promotion of heritage values ​​and national cultural identity.”

Besides, the localities also should build international tourism brands associated with the friendly central region.

He called on all levels of government, the business community, and people to join hands to create a green environment for the sustainable development of the tourism industry. The ministry is developing new mechanisms and policies for the tourism sectors of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Central Key Economic Zone to develop strongly and competitively.

Ha Van Sieu, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism added in the new context, that the provinces and cities of the Central Key Economic Zone need to restructure the market,  focusing on promoting potential markets and renewing tourism products.
