The targets set by the Hanoi Party Committee’s Program No. 07, of which total productivity (TFP) will contribute more than 50% to gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth. Labor productivity will grow by 7 to 7.5%.

The portfolio of agricultural products applying high technology will account for more than 70% of total agricultural products. Revenues from digital economy will make up about 30% of GRDP and half of the total number of enterprises will conduct innovation activities.

At least 40% of products associated with the One Commune One Product program (OCOP) will be registered for protection, management and development of intellectual property as well as control of origin and quality.

In order to achieve these goals, the city focuses on building and perfecting institutions, mechanisms and policies favoring innovation, especially the strategy for developing science, technology and innovation, Director of the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology Nguyen Hong Son said.

The city will map out and implement synchronous solutions in terms of finance, investment and efficient use of resources to harness science and technology potential.

The capital will also step-up technology transfer and application to improve productivity, quality and competitiveness for its economy, Son added.

According to a recent report released by the Hanoi Party Committee, the city’s science and technology sector has achieved many remarkable results in the 2016 - 2020 period. Specifically, the city implemented 416 science and technology tasks in many different fields, making an important contribution to socio-economic development of the capital.

In the period, the city has exploited and promoted its sci-tech human resources at universities and colleges, and research institutes.

The number of universities and research institutes in the capital account for 80% of the national total. The capital is home to 82% of key national laboratories and 65% of the country's professors, associate professors, and doctor of philosophy.
