Hanoi seeks trade opportunities in Australia

The Vietnam- Australia Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy (EEES) shows some suitability for Hanoi in its recovery paths.

Hanoi expects to find investment and trade opportunities in Australia through exchange visits and delegations sent to the country in Oceania this year.

Secretary of the Hanoi’s Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung shared the idea on June 13 with the outgoing Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Robyn Mudie, specifying the potential fields of cooperation including tourism, business operations, and arts.

Culture, education, health, smart city, and hi-tech agriculture are also within the range of collaboration between Hanoi and Australia, Dung added.

Dung said Hanoi will work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to build plans for the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations in 2023. 

Dung added that Hanoi seeks Australia’s cooperation in the context that the city is making efforts to improve administration reforms for better business environment coupled with amending Law on the Capital, adjusting the city’s Master Plan by 2030 and vision to 2050, intensifying investment in Ring Road No.4 to connect regions and create more space for development. 

At the meeting, Dung thanked the Government of Australia and the ambassador for her efforts in supporting the fight against Covid-19 in Vietnam, especially millions of vaccine doses that enabled the country and Hanoi to contain the pandemic and pursue the recovery paths.

In this regard, the city’s economy expanded by 9.8% in the second quarter of 2022, contributing to the first-half growth rate of 7.5%-7.8%.

He said Hanoi is on the way to becoming a hub of economics, culture, education, science-technology, and international integration. For that reason, cooperation with Australia will contribute to the capital city's robust process.

Ambassador Mudie said Vietnam and Australia’s goal of becoming top 10 trading partners one another and doubling two-way investment would open lots of opportunities for Vietnam and Hanoi, with a focus on education, agriculture, energy, and digital transformation. Notably, the Vietnam- Australia Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy (EEES) shows some suitability for Hanoi.

She’s committed to contributing to the enhanced relations between Vietnam and Australia in the years to come.  

Robyn Mudie was awarded the Medal of Friendship in recognition of her contributions to the Vietnam-Australia relations over the past three years as Ambassador to the country.
