Hanoi prepares for Lunar New Year firework displays

Hanoi will host a dragon boat racing festival period 2019 – 2021 after Lunar New Year.
Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has tasked the city’s military's High Command to work with Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports for the plan of firework performances on the occasion of Lunar New Year 2019.

Hanoi normally holds 30 fireworks shows across the city yearly, with five big ones at Hoan Kiem Lake, Thong Nhat Park, Lac Long Quan Flower Garden, Van Quan Lake and My Dinh National Stadium. Meanwhile the capital's remaining 25 districts and towns each has a small fireworks show.
In addition, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has requested the the municipal Department for Foreign Affairs to support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the preparation of “Homeland Spring”, a new-year show dedicated to Vietnamese residing abroad.
Also a dragon boat racing festival is slated to be organized after the Lunar New Year. The Department of Transport in coordination with the city’s Department of Public Security was asked to ensure smooth traffic during the Lunar New Year. More buses will be put on service during these festivities in anticipation of increased commuter demand.
Besides Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City is planning a series of fireworks performances on the New Year’s Eve and Lunar New Year’s Eve. Accordingly, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City have approved a plan for two fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve, and another six for Lunar New Year’s Eve.
The upcoming Year of the Pig will begin on February 5. The government has approved a nine-day (from February 2 to 10) break for the Tet holiday.
