Only 36% of children using Internet at home are trained to stay safe online.

The Hanoi People's Committee has just published a plan for the protection and support of children on the Internet environment for the period 2022-2025.

The move is for the fact that children are spending a lot of time learning, playing, and exploring things online but threats are also part of the exploration in cyberspace.

For that reason, the plan will continue to equip children with digital knowledge and skills to help protect themselves and interact safely in the Internet environment, especially by reporting acts and cases of online child abuse.

In addition, strict measures will be taken to protect children's privacy in the Internet environment. Solutions will also be tightened to prevent abuse of the network to commit prohibited acts against children in any form, as prescribed by Vietnamese law.

Along with this, communication on knowledge, support skills and guidance for children to interact safely, healthily and creatively in the Internet environment will be carried out.

Under the plan, Hanoi stressed the important role of media in disseminating children's issues on the Internet with a note given to the press to ensure it more knowledgeable and committed to ethical values in communications to protect and help children have healthy and creative interactions in cyberspace.

The city also encourages businesses to build and provide Vietnamese products and applications in the online environment to meet the learning and entertainment needs of children.

In particular, schools in the city will be required to regularly organize programs to educate children on the knowledge and skills needed to safely surf the net.

In addition, all children who are victims of online abuse will receive support when needed. Organizations and individuals who are reported or detected violating law on children protection in the Internet environment will be strictly punished.

According to a survey by the municipal People's Committee, nearly 90% of Hanoi's population has access to the Internet, about 80% of children's guardians use it daily, and only 36% of children in the households surveyed have been trained to stay safe online.
