On January 18, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism tested the pilot 2 tour with themed "History of Vietnam–Discovery from the Ground" and "Vietnam–Dawn on the rivers." Tourists had the chance to explore the National History Museum, and visit the old town including Ma May ancient house, Bach Ma Temple or enjoy Hanoi’s famous street food.
On January 19, the tours "Vietnam Fine Art–Treasures in the Heart of Hanoi" and "A View of the Vietnamese Countryside" were also piloted with success. The tour itineraries include visiting the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, attending a show on “Vietnam Village Soul” at the Ho Chi Minh Museum and Vietnam Puppet Theater.
These activities are organized by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to connect the products and services of museums, theaters, and tourism. The authority began testing these tours before the official launch to strengthen tourism products, making them more attractive to tourists, especially international visitors to Hanoi.
2017 was a success for the city’s tourism sector with 23.83 million visitors, including 5 million international visitors (international visitors staying Hanoi more than  3.5 million, up 22% on-year). Total revenue reached VND71 trillion (US$ 3,1 billion), increasing 15% compared to 2016, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
With these efforts, Hanoi expects to serve more than 25.4 million holidaygoers, including 5.5 million foreigners, and gain some VND75 trillion (US$3.33 billion) in revenue. To reach these goals, the city is increasing communications campaigns and tourism development co-operation abroad, said the Director of the municipal Department of Tourism, Tran Duc Hai.
To this end, Hanoi will participate in tourism conferences and co-operation activities held by the Tourism Promotion Organization for Asia-Pacific Cities (TPO) and launch collaboration and survey programmes in Japan, South Korea, and Australia, among others. In addition, the capital of Vietnam will focus on developing high-quality products at tourists’ favourite destinations, such as the world heritage site of Thang Long imperial citadel, the Temple of Literature, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace.
