The 16th Hanoi People’s wrapped up its 7th session today [July 8] after three and a half days of work, completing its entire working agenda.

At the closing ceremony, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan stressed the success of the session came from the active participation of all deputies who made recommendations and exercised responsibilities in key issues of the city.

During the session, over 92 deputies contributed their views during the Q&A sessions.

All deputies noted that 2022 remains a critical period for Hanoi to realize its socio-economic development targets for the 2021-2025 period.

Amid severe Covid-19 impacts and growing global uncertainties, Hanoi has successfully contained the pandemic and laid the foundation for socio-economic recovery.

The city’s GRDP growth in the first six months of 2022 hit 7.79% year-on-year, higher than the national average and increasing 1.29-fold against the same period of last year.

State budget revenue was estimated at VND177 trillion (US$7.57 billion), equivalent to 56.8% of the estimate and up 20.2% year on year.

There has also been strong progress in the fields of culture, education, and healthcare, while national security and public order continue to stay intact.

Tuan said Hanoi has contributed to the success of the 2021 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) which left a good impression on international friends.

According to Tuan, deputies at the 7th session have voted on ratifying the objectives for socio-economic development and budget management in the last six months of 2022, focusing on addressing the concerns of businesses and people to speed up economic recovery.

The municipal People’s Council, in this regard, approved 16 reports and 15 resolutions. “These are the legal basis for the authorities to timely resolve social issues and aid economic growth,” Tuan said.

Other key aspects in the session were recommendations from deputies to accelerate public investment, as well as removing legal hurdles for auctioning land use rights in the city.

“Right after the session, the Hanoi People’s Committee and other departments, and units, are tasked with realizing their promises to the municipal People’s Council and voters,” Tuan continued.
