The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is proclaimed and observed by the United Nations annually on November 29.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Quang Khai, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, said, “This occasion serves as a reminder to the international community to focus on the fact that the Palestinian issue remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people have yet to achieve their inalienable rights as defined by the UN General Assembly. These include the right to freedom, self-determination, independence, and the return to their homeland.”

Khai read a congratulatory letter from Vietnam’s State President Luong Cuong addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang, Chairman of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People Cheikh Niang, and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas.

In the letter, State President Luong Cuong reaffirmed Vietnam's steadfast stance in supporting a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue based on respect for international law and relevant UN resolutions. He emphasized the need to ensure the legitimate interests of all parties involved, in particular the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state coexisting peacefully and securely alongside the State of Israel, within the  pre-1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Shin Umezu, Head of the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Vietnam, read a message from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The message highlighted that every year on November 29, the international community stands united for the dignity, rights, justice, and self-determination of the Palestinian people.

He called for full support for essential humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, especially through the efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). "The United Nations will continue to stand with the Palestinian people and uphold their inalienable rights so that they can live in peace, security, and dignity," Antonio Guterres wrote.

Speaking at the event, Saadi Salama, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Vietnam, on behalf of the Palestinian leadership and people, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the leaders, government, and people of Vietnam, as well as the Vietnamese community abroad, for their unwavering support for the just struggle for the independence and freedom of the Palestinian people. "We, the Palestinian people, aspire to end this prolonged suffering. We yearn to live in peace with dignity and freedom, in an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as called for by international resolutions," Ambassador Saadi Salama said.
