“There has been a major difference in this national survey compared to previous ones in terms of data collection method,” said Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ha Minh Hai at the launch, referring to a greater level of IT application during the process and a new approach in gathering information from respondents to ensure timely and accurate data collection.
Hai requested the Hanoi Statistics Office and related authorities to proceed to phase two of the survey as planned and ensure safety measures amid the severe Covid-19 situation.
Vice Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong said the 2021 national economic census holds significant meaning, as data collected from the process would serve as the basis for the central government and local authorities to draft socio-economic development strategies.
“As Hanoi is among a handful of cities having put the pandemic under control, the authorities should take this opportunity to speed up the data collection process,” Phuong urged.
The second phase of the economic census, scheduled to take place from July 1-30, is to collect information on business and production activities of 367,000 individual business households and 5,0000 religious groups, specifically in the scale of operation and workforce, IT application level, and business results.
During the first phase from March 1-May 30, the municipal Statistics Office had collected similar data from businesses, cooperatives, administrative units, and associations.
As a city with the second-largest number of respondents, only behind Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi’s statistics agency has mobilized 3,500 pollsters to carry out the survey process, which is set to take place under various forms of direct interview, web-form filling, or computer-assisted personal interview (CAPI).
Hanoi is set to publish the survey result in December 2021 and the official figure in February 2022.
