Mayor Tran Sy Thanh told JICA chief representative Sugano Yuichi on May 19 that the Japanese agency should address specific problems and challenges in projects already underway.
The Chairman mentioned some challenges in several Japanese-funded ODA projects in Hanoi, including the construction of the urban railway connecting Nam Thang Long urban area to Tran Hung Dao Street and the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant.
For his part, the JICA chief representative appreciated that the city's authorities had made some replacements in the project management units and some changes essential for the projects to ensure their planned progress.
Sugano hoped the city would pay more attention to ongoing projects, adding that the Japanese and Vietnamese governments want to promote joint efforts to deepen Vietnam-Japan relations. Sugano said he was impressed by Hanoi's development over the past 24 years since he first arrived in 1999.
The Japanese official also hoped that JICA and Hanoi would promote their relationship to contribute to celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and strengthening bilateral ties.
Chairman Thanh expressed his pleasure that JICA-Hanoi relations have progressed in recent years.
He said the capital city is willing to listen to Japanese investors and work with them to solve problems so that Vietnam-Japan relations will grow stronger in the future.
