Hanoi is World's Leading City Break Destination

Dubbed the "Oscar of the World Tourism Industry", the award is a source of pride for Hanoi and a testament to the efforts of the capital's tourism industry.

Hanoi has once again won the title of World's Leading City Break Destination 2023, beating many other heavyweight contenders such as Sydney, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; Singapore; and Lisbon, Portugal, the Hanoi Department of Tourism announced on December 4.

The World Travel Awards ceremony was recently held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, said that winning the title of World's Leading City Break Destination has again confirmed the potential and attractiveness of Hanoi’s tourism industry on the world tourism map.

"Through this prestigious award, we hope that Hanoi's typical tourism offerings will be further disseminated to travelers at home and abroad," she said.

Hanoi has rich tourism resources with 5,922 historical and cultural relics and 1,793 intangible cultural heritage sites, including many typical destinations such as Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Temple of Literature, Hanoi Old Quarter, Soc Temple, Thay Pagoda and Tay Phuong Pagoda, among many others.

It is also home to thousands of traditional handicraft villages such as Bat Trang ceramics, Van Phuc silk weaving, Ha Thai lacquer, Quat Dong embroidery, and others.

In addition, a better synchronized infrastructure system and supporting tourism technical facilities are being developed with quality and professionalism. The city has applied information technology in tourism activities, providing free Wi-Fi in tourist areas and attractions.

In June 2023, Gia, Hibana by Koki and Tam Vi, three restaurants in Hanoi, were awarded one Michelin star, the world's most prestigious food ranking organization -  the Michelin Guide, for the first time.

Recently, in October 2023, the capital of Vietnam won the World's Best Golf City Destination 2023 Award, confirming that the capital of Vietnam is a unique, attractive, unique, safe and quality tourist destination.

This year's World Travel Awards also honored Vietnam as the World's Leading Heritage Destination for the fourth time.

The title recognizes Vietnam's potential and attractiveness in terms of natural resources and long-standing cultural heritage values.

Along with the capital Hanoi, the island of Phu Quoc in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang was named the World's Leading Nature Island Destination. The Moc Chau Plateau in the northwestern province of Son La was designated the World's Leading Regional Nature Destination, and the northern province of Hanoi won the title of World's Leading Regional Cultural Destination. Meanwhile, a small town in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, Tam Dao, won the World's Leading Town Destination award.
