Hospitality businesses in the capital are gearing up for a busy summer.

In a bid to attract more tourists to the capital this summer, hotels in Hanoi are offering a range of discounts and promotions.

The 70th anniversary of the city’s liberation (October 10), the 79th anniversary of National Day (September 2), and a parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese People's Army (December 22) are expected to be Hanoi's tourist magnets.

Christopher Marcel Strahm, General Manager of Pan Pacific Hotel, said the celebration of the capital's liberation will be a special occasion.

It represents the pride of the entire nation, and many distinguished guests will arrive in Hanoi to attend the ceremony, he said.

According to the general manager, the hotel has prepared several discount packages for guests, such as a 10% discount on room rates if reservations are made 30 days prior to check-in.

Guests staying at Pan Pacific Hanoi will also receive vouchers for complimentary welcome drinks at the Red River Bar and a 15% discount on food and beverage services at the hotel, he told the Voice of Vietnam.

On Hang Bong Street in the Old Quarter, Silk Path's sales manager Nguyen Thanh Thuy said the hotel is targeting families looking for summer relaxation after the school year.

She expected the hotel to attract a large number of guests because of its location on Hang Bong Street, a 10-minute walk from Hanoi's iconic Hoan Kiem Lake.

"We offer a 15% discount on room rates and allow guests to check in at 10 a.m. and check out at 2 p.m.," Thuy said.

Other top hotels in Hanoi have also come up with preferential packages in room rates and services to increase the number of guests.

According to Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Tourism Department, the upcoming events are expected to keep travelers in the city longer and increase their spending.

"Hanoi is a big city and a huge market in Vietnam's tourism sector. However, many tourists come here and do not get to know the culture and history of the city properly," Minh said, adding that the upcoming historical commemorations will be opportunities for Hanoi to prove itself as a safe, friendly, exceptional, and attractive destination.

Nguyen Manh Than, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Tourism Association, recommended that businesses should improve the quality of their products and services.

He urged businesses to understand customers' tastes and habits and attract more travelers to the city's events.

Communication is also key to maintaining Hanoi's position as a top-tier, must-visit destination in the country, the vice chairman said.

By 2025, Hanoi's tourism sector is expected to generate over VND130 trillio(US$5.2 billion) in revenue from over 30 million visitors.

In 2024, the capital aims to welcome a total of 26.5 million travelers, including five million foreigners.

In the first half of this year, more than 14 million tourists came to Hanoi, up 14% year-on-year.
