Hanoi honors 16 winners of 1,010th founding anniversary contest

The contest aims to arouse the love and pride in Vietnam and abroad for the capital city.

The Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO) has announced 16 winners of a writing contest with the theme “Hanoi in My Heart”, held in celebration of the 1,010th founding anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony on October 31, HUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Lan Huong said that the contest offered a chance for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese to show their feelings towards the land of millenary civilization and help enhance the understanding and friendship between the Vietnamese people, including Hanoians, and international friends.

Saleem Hammad from Palestine won the first prize while the two second prizes were presented to Nilov Roman, third secretary at the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, and Nguyen Thi Tram, an overseas Vietnamese living in Germany.

Ambassador of Timor Leste to Vietnam Pascoela Barreto dos Santos, Secretary at the Lao Embassy in Vietnam Chansida Inkhavilay, and Okabe Chikara from Japan, took the third prizes.

About 10 consolation prizes were awarded to the contestants from India, Colombia, Indonesia, Laos, Mozambic, France and the Philippines.

Lasting for two months, the contest received 206 entries from many countries including Japan, France, Russia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mozambique, the Philippines, Laos and Palestine, among others. 

Many entries of diplomatic staff, foreign students studying in Hanoi and overseas Vietnamese have been meticulously crafted, expressing the authors' special love for the capital city as well as their high proficiency in Vietnamese.
