Great Russian poet Pushkin’s monument inaugurated in Hanoi

The monument in honor of Russian great poet Pushkin in Hanoi aims to tighten the friendship between Vietnamese and Russian peoples.

Hanoi People's Committee and Embassy of the Russian Federation in Hanoi jointly inaugurated a monument dedicated to renown Russian poet Alexander Pushkin in Hoa Binh Park, Hanoi on March 17.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev emphasized that great poet Pushkin is a cultural symbol of Russia, and his nation is very proud that a monument of the great poet was raised in the capital of Vietnam, showing a close and trustworthy friendship between the two countries.

The monument of Pushkin at Hoa Binh Park is a gift from Association of Russian Writers to Hanoi’s government and people, and the result of an initiative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Hanoi in 2016.

Receiving the monument on behalf of Hanoi, the Standing Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Le Hong Son thanked the Russian friends for the meaningful gift.

The monument of the Russian poet, which is in 2.1 meters high and weighs 1.5 tons, was cast from monolithic bronze, fully depicting the Russian great celebrity.

Pushkin monument in Hanoi is the newest capital’s landmark, adding it to the list of cities in the world that possess the monument of this outstanding Russian poet. Monuments of Alexander Pushkin are raised in 40 countries such as Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, USA, Egypt, Ethiopia, Mexico and China.

Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) was a Russian poet, playwright, and novelist of the Romantic era. He is considered by many to be the greatest Russian poet, and the founder of modern Russian literature.

Critics consider many of his works as ‘masterpieces of the word’, such as poem The Bronze Horseman and drama The Stone Guest, a tale of the fall of Don Juan.

In Vietnam, Alexander Pushkin is one of the best-known Russian authors. His works, mostly poems- have long been translated into Vietnamese, taught in school, published and reprinted in various publications for many times.
