Hanoi values its friendship and cooperation with over 100 global cities, but it places particular emphasis on its relationship with Cambodian provinces and cities, especially Phnom Penh.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan shared this view during a meeting with the Chairman of the External Relations Commission of the Cambodian People’s Party Central Committee Prak Sokhonn on October 17.

During the meeting, Tuan expressed his congratulations for the significant and comprehensive accomplishments of the Cambodian people in recent years. This included the successful organization of the 7th National Assembly election on July 23, 2023, which demonstrated the people's strong trust in the Cambodian People's Party.

He also expressed his confidence in Cambodia's continued growth and prosperity, foreseeing an enhanced role and position in the regional and global context.

Tuan underscored the enduring 55-year friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, nurtured by successive generations of leaders and citizens from both countries. He highlighted the ongoing positive development in various areas of the bilateral relationship, encompassing politics, defense, security, economic collaboration, trade, investment, culture, education, and multilateral cooperation.

“Both nations came together effectively during the Covid-19 pandemic and offered mutual support, reflecting the spirit of solidarity and the tradition of helping each other during challenging times,” Tuan said.

The municipal People’s Council Chairman also introduced the Cambodian delegation to some key aspects of Hanoi's recent socio-economic development.

He also reiterated Hanoi's strong commitment to fostering friendly and cooperative ties with Cambodian localities, especially the capital, Phnom Penh.

Tuan stressed Hanoi's willingness to strengthen cooperation across various sectors with Phnom Penh, with the aim of furthering the development of both cities and preserving and strengthening the long-standing friendship between the two nations and their people.

He stressed that Hanoi, to the best of its capabilities, has been actively involved in supporting Cambodia in the construction of various significant social projects and works that symbolize the goodwill between the two capitals.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the City People's Council expressed Hanoi's hope that the Cambodian People's Party and the Cambodian Government will maintain their attention and support, thereby creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors and businesses operating in Cambodia.

This includes fostering friendly cooperation between various regions in both countries, with a special focus on Hanoi and Phnom Penh, he said.

In response to the warm reception by Hanoi's leaders, the Chairman of the External Relations Commission of the Cambodian People’s Party Central Committee  Prak Sokhonn emphasized that this was his first official visit to Vietnam, reflecting the new political context.

He expressed his admiration for Hanoi's and Vietnam's overall development achievements and optimism about the country and its people's continued efforts in building a dynamic and progressing economy.

He also anticipated that the relationship between the two parties, the two states, and the two peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia would continue to strengthen.

Prak Sokhonn stressed Cambodia's profound commitment to bringing good-neighborly relations, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, long-term, and sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia to a new and higher level. He also expressed his expectation that Hanoi and Phnom Penh would continue to exchange information and share experiences, especially in the field of urban development.
