Nguyen Tung - Thu Huong 14:16, 2017/08/07
According to the Steering Board of the campaign Vietnamese Buying Vietnamese Goods, the Consumer Right Action Program has received through the call center 04.1081 approximately 15,000 calls asking about the laws, rights and tasks of consumers after 7 years since its establishment.
In the first six months of 2017, the call center received and answered more than 3,000 calls about laws and program-related information, an increase of nearly 15% in comparison to 2016.  Consumers’ complaints have been  forwarded to the Vietnam Standard and Consumers Association (VINASTAS),

However, the majority of consumers are still unwilling to denounce because of fear of conflict.  Talking about the reasons that make consumers unwilling to report any violation with regard to consumer rights,  the Vice Chairman of VINASTAS Nguyen Manh Hung explained that the consumers  do not have enough proof that their rights are violated, or they often demand too high of a compensation. “Moreover, the law enforcement forces  have not strictly supervised the process or taken actions too late.  As a result, consumers do not believe in regulators  anymore”, Nguyen Manh Hung said.

Responding to the message “Safe products for customers” initiated by Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Hanoi Industry and Trade Department has organized the program of “For Consumer rights”, which create the opportunity for customers to access high quality products made in Vietnam with reasonable price, clear ingredients and origins.

Director of the electronics store chain Media Mart – Duong Van Viet said, to protect customer rights, Media Mart will  reject suppliers conducting unfair business activities. Retailing enterprises are the most  proactive in conducting measures to protect customer rights, as well as organizing consulting program free of charge. All of these efforts have regained the customers’ trust and stimulated consumption for local products. Data released by Hanoi Industry and Trade Department has shown positive results through a series of exhibitions, sale and promotion events. In particular, the Vietnam Day of Consumer Rights 2017 has attracted 300 thousand  customers shopping at registered selling points. Total revenue of participated enterprises reached 231 billion VND, an increase of 10% in terms of revenue and visitors compared to the event in 2016.

However, experts stressed on  customers’ awareness as key to  protect  their own rights. Bearing that in mind, only when customers  timely denounce the wrongdoers to administrative agencies and enterprises, then their  rights can be secured. From now  until the end of 2017, the Hanoi Industry and Trade Department will continue with promotion  activities, including  information dissemination, especially on 8 rights of customers to enterprises and citizens. At the same time, programs such as Connecting supply – demand, customers – enterprises are essential  to support the consumption of made-in-Vietnam products. Between September 21-25, a series of events will take place, such as: annual high quality Vietnamese goods fair, Vietnam International Trade fair, Connecting supply – demand between Hanoi and other provinces/cities in 2017 will be held to enhance consumers’ awareness of their rights.

“Only with  thorough  understanding of  the Law on Protection of Consumers’ Rights, that enterprises understand their  obligations  towards securing consumers’ rights. This is not only helpful to customers, but also to enterprises in the context of increased consumption” – Vice Chair of the Steering Committee for Campaign to encourage the Vietnamese Public to buy Vietnamese products Le Thi Kim Oanh  said.
