The three-day festival will strengthen the affectionate bond between the people of the two major cities of Vietnam - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

A festival entitled "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024) will be underway from August 23-25.

According to Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of Hanoi's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the festival aims to promote the significance of the capital's liberation and celebrate Hanoi's achievements over the past 70 years.

The festival aims to draw attention to the distinctive cultural and historical features of Hanoi, a thousand-year-old city, and promote its designation as a City for Peace and a Creative City, she said at a press conference today (August 21).

According to the official, the three-day festival will feature a number of activities, including an archival photo exhibition on the liberation of the capital and two exhibitions on the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and the essence of Vietnamese Confucianism.

These exhibitions will showcase Hanoi's key historical sites using cutting-edge technologies like 3D mapping, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence to provide an immersive cultural experience.

On Nguyen Hue Walking Street, there will be a replica of Long Bien Bridge, a symbol of Hanoi's history, and a demonstration of Hanoi miniatures such as Mid-Autumn Festival, Hoan Kiem Lake, Mural Street, and Hanoi's Flower Scenes.
It will also feature a 10,000-square-meter promotional fair with 28 booths showcasing Hanoi's traditional handicrafts.
Hanoi authorities will present a replica of the Co Loa Bronze Drum as a gift to the government and people of Ho Chi Minh City. The drum will be displayed in the Ho Chi Minh City Museum.

The opening ceremony on August 23, titled "Hanoi's Glorious Milestones", will vividly depict the capital's historical and cultural heritage through documentaries and special artistic performances. The event will feature artists from both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, blending the different artistic traditions of the two cities.

As part of the program, a delegation from Hanoi will meet with the leadership of Ho Chi Minh City and will visit and present gifts to 70 exemplary families.

Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai said the program is an opportunity to reflect on Hanoi's heroic history and introduce its cultural and economic values, especially the spirit of the capital's people, to the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country.

"The program reinforces the strong bond and close cooperation between Vietnam's two largest cities, fostering unity and joint development," he said.

His counterpart in Ho Chi Minh City Tran Thi Dieu Thuy added that the event is a special occasion for the people of Ho Chi Minh City to connect with Hanoi.

According to Thuy, it also creates a stronger connection between the southern city's youth and the capital.

Thuy said understanding Hanoi also means appreciating the deep cultural layers of the thousand-year-old city.
