The city government's leader affirms to facilitate the Japanese firm's $4.2-billion smart city project.

The Hanoi government committed to facilitating the US$4.2 billion project, which is expected to transform the city's northern part.

This was confirmed by Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh during a meeting with Chairman and CEO of Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation Shingo Ueno on October 9.

During the meeting, Ueno briefed the mayor on the scale and activities of the Japanese corporation. Established its office in Vietnam in 1997, Sumitomo has conducted many projects in Vietnam, including the Thang Long Industrial Park in Hanoi.

He hoped that the city government would support and expedite the necessary procedures to ensure that the Smart City - the plan Sumitomo is working on in Hanoi's Dong Anh district - proceeds on schedule.

Proposed by Japan, the project is one of the components of the urban development area along the Nhat Tan - Noi Bai route. The investor is North Hanoi Smart City JSC, a joint venture between Vietnam's BRG Group and Japan's Sumitomo.

Also at the meeting, Ueno and representatives from BRG Corporation made several recommendations to improve the project's effectiveness.

Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, took serious note of the proposal and acknowledged that Sumitomo's business activities in Vietnam have achieved impressive results over the past two decades.

Thanh said Hanoi always welcomes potential partners, including Sumitomo, to further explore and expand investment cooperation in areas of mutual interest and strength.

Regarding the Smart City, Thanh assured that the Hanoi government will do its best to ensure the smooth implementation of the plan, and expressed great confidence in the effective cooperation between BRG and Sumitomo.

He also instructed relevant agencies in Hanoi to coordinate in reviewing and resolving bottlenecks and to guide investors in complying with procedures, while emphasizing the need to ensure compliance with legal regulations and project timelines.

Located at the northern end of Nhat Tan Bridge, along the Nhat Tan - Noi Bai development axis of Hanoi, in Dong Anh District, the Smart City project covers 272 hectares and costs approximately US$4.2 billion.
