Hanoi collaborates to held Red Journey 2017

National steering committee for voluntary blood donations in collaboration with Hanoi’ steering committee for voluntary blood donations have organized the final stop of this year’s Red Journey at the National Convention Center.
Addressing the festival, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu said that the Red Journey under the theme ‘Connecting Vietnamese bloodstream’ was held from July 1-31 throughout 28 provinces and cities across Viet Nam to collect blood and raise public awareness of the importance of blood donation. The organizers received more than 35,000 units of blood during the one-month campaign, helping to ensure blood supply for emergency treatment in the summer and ease blood shortages on a national scale.

Some provinces successfully organized the Red Journey program, collecting more than 1,000 units of blood, including: Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Hai Phong. She proposed that the Organizing Committee of Red Journey campaign continues to maintain and develop the organization of Red Journey on a wide scale in various forms to encourage giving blood, solve the shortage of blood during the sumer season thanks to the current promising blood donation sources. 

In Hanoi, the event was held from July 27 to 31. The highlight is the Giot Hong Tri An” (Pink Drops of Appreciation) program which is expected to collect around 5,000 units of blood.

Addressing the program, Chairman of the Hanoi’s Red Cross Society Nguyen Sy Truong affirmed that, in recent years, the blood donation campaigns of the capital city have seen outstanding achievements. Hanoi has the most effective network of blood donation clubs, effectively coordinating with local blood transfusion institutes and centers.

In 2016, the city has received over 193,000 blood units, the blood donation rate was over 2.4 percent of the city population. In the first half of 2017, over 130,000 blood units were collected in the city, equivalent to 75 percent of the set target. The blood donation movement has developed in all districts, towns, enterprises, universities, colleges and academies, becoming cultural beauty of the units and people of the Capital.

Professor Nguyen Anh Tri, Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, said the 5th event of its kind aims to replenish blood shortages during summer months.

The blood shortage still happens in various provinces and cities nationwide. The Red Journey will contribute to meeting the urgent need of blood for treatment at various hospitals and make a good and widespread influence on the public, raising people’s awareness of blood donation.
