Hanoi calls for votes to become one of world’s leading destinations

Hanoi has been nominated by the World Travel Organization to run with 17 candidates for a prize of the world’s leading city destination in 2018.
The Hanoi Department of Tourism has called on local and foreign visitors to vote for the city to become one of the world’s leading city destination in 2018 as part of the World Travel Awards.

Among the 200 nominations for the World Travel Awards, Hanoi has been nominated by the World Travel Organization to run with 17 candidates for a prize of the world’s leading city destination in 2018.
The rest cities suggested for the award are Auckland (New Zealand), Cape Town and Dubai, Durban (South Africa), Hong Kong (China), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Las Vegas and New York (the US), Lisbon (Portugal), London (the UK), Marrakech (Morocco), Paris (France), Quito (Ecuador), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Saint-Petersburg (Russia), Sydney (Australia), and Lisbon (Portugal).

Voters must register for an account at website http://www.worldtravelawards.com before casting their vote.
According to the department, the award is a chance for Hanoi to promote its image, thus attracting more visitors.
Earlier, Hello, a UK weekly magazine has named Hanoi the number one city on its seven best destinations in Asia for backpackers.
Ideal for travelers on a tight budget, Vietnam’s capital city is one of the cheapest destinations for backpackers. “Not only is accommodation and food reamarkably affordable, but you’ll be spoiled for choice of things to see and do in the city, which has a mix of Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences,” Helle magazine wrote.
The number of foreign visitors to Hanoi in the first eight months of 2018 is estimated at 3.8 million, a 19.8% increase from the same last year, according to the Hanoi Department of Tourism.
In August alone, over 2.2 million visitors arrived in Hanoi, a 8.2% from the same last year. Of the total, 458,333 were foreign visitors, representing an on-year jump of 13%, 330,000 were domestic holidaymakers, a 14% from the same last year.
