Hanoi accelerates OCOP consumption citywide

The fair seeks to promote the consumption of high-quality domestic products while increasing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods.

The latest launch of a trade fair on OCOP (One Commune, One Product) has indicated Hanoi’s efforts to promote the consumption of these certified products amid its long-term “Vietnamese people use Vietnamese goods” strategy.

Held at CT7 Apartment Block, Duong Noi Urban Area, Ha Dong District, Hanoi, the fair gathers more than 50 booths displaying over 500 OCOP products from Hanoi and 18 localities nationwide.

Titled “Introducing and Promoting OCOP Items, Handicraft Villages, and Safe Farm Produce”, the week-long fair is a good opportunity to provide good quality products to the area accommodating more than 10,000 residents.

The event showcases specialties from Haiphong, Hoa Binh, Quang Nam, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa, and Hanoi – the city has more than 20 booths displaying more than 100 OCOP items.

It also helps OCOP producers in Hanoi connect with partners nationwide and expand the distribution network while increasing access to certified products in order to boost the consumption of domestic goods and exports

Speaking at the fair, Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the event offers farmers and traders the chance to boost sales, strengthen partnerships, and promote brands while helping customers become more knowledgeable about domestic products and put them among top choices.

In its plan to develop OCOP items, Hanoi has since 2019 classified more than 2,700 items. Hanoi’s OCOP products account for one-third of the national total

According to Nguyen Dinh Hoa, the city has the potential to develop OCOP items thanks to its vast arable land, many handicraft villages, and unique cuisine.

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program aims to increase the competitiveness of locally produced goods. Since its launch in 2018, the initiative has increased the competitiveness of thousands of products across the nation.

Products from OCOP are categorized into five groups, with five stars being the best in order to evaluate and incentivize producers to enhance the quality of their goods.
