The opening of Hanoi's oldest flower market helps to entertain locals and visitors to the city in the days leading up to the country's biggest holiday.

Hanoi's famous Hang Luoc Flower Market will remain open until February 9, the 30th day of the 12th lunar month, to serve the demand for Tet by Hanoians and nearby residents.

Dating back to the early 20th century, this annual flower market is considered the oldest of its kind in the capital. It stretches from Hang Luoc Street to the nearby streets of Hang Ruoi, Hang Chai, Hang Khoai, and the mural section of Phung Hung Street.

Stalls are set up along the streets selling traditional Vietnamese flowers for Tet decoration, such as peach blossom, kumquat, yellow blossom, ornamental plants, and other home decoration items.

Meanwhile, traditional specialties from Hanoi and surrounding areas, such as handicrafts from Phu Vinh Bamboo and Rattan Village, Hang Trong folk paintings, Bat Trang pottery, mosaics from Chuon Ngo Village, lacquerware from Ha Thai Village, and others, will be displayed for sale in the mural space on Phung Hung Street.

Traditionally, Tet is a time when people bid farewell to the old year and prepare to welcome the new with traditional rituals and customs, hoping for the best. Therefore, decorating one's home with traditional flowers and ornamental plants is one of Hanoi's hobbies.

The Hang Luoc Flower Market offers hundreds of varieties of vibrant flowers that help create a lively Tet atmosphere in the capital that can't be found anywhere else in the country. People visit the annual market not only to buy flowers but also to enjoy the Tet atmosphere.
