Ha Long greets 6,000 international cruise tourists
Four international cruise ships bringing more than 6,000 visitors to Quang Ninh province’s Ha Long City arrived at Vinashin port and Hon Gai port on December 26.
These four ships are Azamara Journey, World Dream, Celebrity Millennium, and Lory Sea, carrying 649, 2,738, 2,265 and 611 passengers, respectively.
Of these four ships, the eight-floor Lory Sea with a capacity of 1,300 passengers brought visitors to Ha Long for the first day. This ship docked in Ha Long only one day, while the other three stayed for two days and one night.
In Quang Ninh, cruise tourists mainly participate in tours visiting Halong Bay, a museum, some beautiful local areas and watching a water puppet show and. In addition, visitors can experience various kinds of entertainment such as kayaking and taking a basket boat to popular destinations as well as admire the beauty of the bay.
Statistics showed that Ha Long Bay has 533 cruise ships. Transport companies have invested in heavy-load, luxurious and safe cruise liners to meet the increasing demand of visitors,
Recognised as a Natural Wonder of the World by UNESCO, Halong Bay is among the worth-visiting landscapes in Vietnam for tourists, both domestic and international, who love discovering wonderful works of Mother Nature.
Due to its favourable geographical and historical position, Ha Long is always attractive to international shipping lines. In 2017, there were 100 cruises carrying over 100,000 tourists to Quang Ninh province.
According to reports from tourist agents, there will be about 100 cruises from now until March 2018, said Pham Ngoc Thuy, Director of the Quang Ninh Tourism Department.
In order to prepare for visitors, the Department has worked with travel agencies to review the routes being put into operation such as recreation areas, museums, and squares.
Furthermore, local authorities called on businesses to invest in developing services. A number of enterprises are asking for permission to invest in the field, based on the principle of cultural heritage and value preservation, as stipulated under the Law on Cultural Heritage.
Recently, the Municipal People’s Committee announced a detailed plan on sight-seeing sites, service facilities, rest areas and shops for visitors at Cap Tao bay in Ha Long, which will create more tourism products and services and generate jobs for local residents. The bay is expected to greet nearly 2.9 million holidaymakers for the whole year.
The city also issued a temporary regulation on the management of tickets to the bay, which allows visitors to buy tickets only one time to see all the destinations. Tickets are now only available at Tuan Chau International Port and Hon Gai Vinashin Port. Deputy Head of the Board, Pham Dinh Huynh, said the city will use e-tickets in the future.
The rising number of tourists to Ha Long has helped Quang Ninh Province earn more than VND10 trillion (US$440 million) from tourism this year.
The province welcomed 6.93 million arrivals in 2017, a 12.9 per cent rise against last year. Of the total, 2.94 million were foreign tourists.
The province targets to welcome 15-16 million tourists, including 7 million international visitors, earning around VND30-40 trillion by 2020.
