Going ahead with uniform measures for price controls
VOV 09:51, 2013/12/03
It is imperative to strictly control market prices to ensure balanced supply and demand of goods as the traditional lunar New Year festival (Tet) nears.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the request at a regular cabinet meeting in Hanoi on December 2 to review the socio-economic performance in 11 months and the five-year implementation of a Party resolution on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, and discuss how to fulfil this year’s targets.

Dung asked ministries, sectors and localities to iron out snags in production and business, helping firms to scale up their production and trade.

The past 11 months saw progress in keeping inflation in check and stabilising the macro-economy with falling interest rates and double credit growth over last year’s same period.

During the reviewed period, social welfare was ensured, industrial production was on the way to recover, especially the processing and manufacturing sectors.

Export growth reached US$121 billion, 16 percent higher than the level recorded in last year's eleven months while trade deficit accounted for just 0.08 % of total export turnover.

Ministries, agencies and localities need to make greater efforts in practising thrift aiming to fulfil State budget plan set for this year, Dung said while asking them to speed up the implementation of construction projects and monitor the use of investment capital.

Regarding a report on the Party resolution on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, cabinet members said the resolution has proved its high efficiency in developing agriculture and rural areas, improving farmers’ income and living conditions, thus making major contributions to ensuring sustainable economic development and social and political stability.

However, they attributed the agricultural sector’s weaknesses to the poor quality and competitiveness of products.

They proposed measures to promote agricultural development over the 2014-2020 period with a focus on promoting the new-style rural areas programme by intensifying investment in rural socio-economic infrastructure facilities.

Uniform solutions should be worked out to reduce poverty and increase the quality of cultural, education and healthcare services for people in rural areas.

The restructuring of agricultural businesses is needed with active engagement of private companies, and closer connectivity between businesses and farmers, they said.

The cabinet members stressed the importance of enhancing technology research and transfer and human resources training in rural areas.

During the meeting, they also opined issues related to regulations on State budget performance and Labour Code on retirement age.
