Giant cave to be opened in Quang Binh
Adventure tours to the world`s biggest cave Son Doong will officially run from January, 2015.
However, they will cease for the rest of the year to avoid flooding.
To protect the delicate cave system, a maximum of 450 visitors will be allowed in each year.
Son Doong is located in the central province of Quang Binh, and was created 2-5 million years ago by a river eroding away the limestone mountain. With a length of 6.5 kilometre, a width of 150 metres and a height of over 200 metres. It also houses a jungle and a river, and could fit a 40-storey skyscraper within its walls
The cave was rated as the largest cave in the world by the British Cave Research Association.
It has been recently suggested by the American news website huffingtonpost.com as one of the places to visit. Son Doong was also listed in the "52 Places to Go in 2014" by The New York Times Travel.
The cave has been opened to public exploration, allowing four trial adventure tours lasting six days and five nights each.
