French education group Odyssey keen on strengthening cooperation with Hanoi
Ngoc Mai - Lien Ha 20:28, 2024/03/27
Odyssey Education Group and Hanoi are set to sign a memorandum of cooperation to implement French language teaching and educational programs in the capital.

Building upon the foundation of the longstanding and fruitful cooperation between Hanoi and France, Hanoi anticipates that the presence of Odyssey Group, along with various collaborative programs and projects in the city, will yield new outcomes in the future.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen gave the remarks during a meeting with Chairman of Odyssey Luc Chatel today [March 27].

During the meeting, Quyen expressed his delight at the robust development of the Vietnam-France relationship, marked by significant milestones, including the successful 12th Conference on Cooperation between Vietnamese and French localities held in Hanoi in 2023. He also applauded the contributions of the French education group Odyssey and La Petite Ecole School to the educational development of Hanoi.

Regarding the education cooperation in the coming time, the Hanoi People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs to discuss specific content with Odyssey Group and advise the city's leadership for decision-making.

Odyssey Chairman Luc Chatel stated that the group provides educational services in many countries, from preschool to high school, incorporating French education programs with innovative and advanced teaching methods worldwide. Students are trained in a multilingual environment, combining French, English, and the local language.

During the meeting, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Tran The Cuong, outlined the education situation in Hanoi in recent years. He mentioned that the bilingual French program in Hanoi has been implemented at all three levels of education since 1992. This program has been a pioneer in international integration, absorbing and teaching French as a foreign language while also serving as the language for teaching scientific subjects in French.

From 1992 to 2006, the program was funded by France, with French language teachers and teachers of scientific subjects in French regularly trained in France or Vietnam and students participating in large-scale and effective extracurricular activities.

Since 2006, the program has been fully handed over to Vietnam, with individual teachers undergoing self-improvement and student activities mainly organized by schools.
Based on this foundation, Cuong proposed that Odyssey Education Group and Hanoi consider signing a memorandum of cooperation to implement French language teaching and educational programs in the future.

Vice Chairman Quyen and Chairman of Odyssey Education Group Luc Chatel agreed with the proposal and will discuss specific steps to finalize this agreement soon.
