Foreign visitors to Vietnam rises by 12.3% in January
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the country received more than 805,000 international tourists in January, increasing by 5.8% againt last month and 12.3% from the same month last year.
In the month, the key markets of Vietnam’s tourism sector, including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea (Rok), Russia, Taiwan and the US witnessed a strong surrge.
In January, Vietnam welcomed 149,330 holiday-makers from the RoK, up 28.2% from the same period in 2015.
Despite economic difficulties, the number of Russian tourists to the country also rose by 23.7% against the same period last year. The Russian visitors are in favour of resort tourism and always splash out a large amount of money during their long stay in Vietnam.
Besides, thanks to the country's visa-exemption policy that was officially implemented from July 1, 2015, Vietnam's tourism saw a steady increase11.9% over the same period last year from the European market, reaching 154,000 arrivals.
The number of Russian visitors reached 42,900 arrivals, increasing by 23.7% from January, 2015, the UK: 21,900 arrivals (20.6%), France: 20,600 arrivals (9.9%), Germany: 16,500 arrivals (16%), Sweden: 6,700 arrivals (20.4%), Italy: 6,100 arrivals (28.8% ).
The tourism sector recorded a considerable growth from the Malaysian, Thai and Singaporean markets.
In addition, the number of American visitors to Vietnam reached 76,300 arrivals, up 15.4 % over the same period last year. In particular, the number of visitors from the United States was 57,400 arrivals, up 20.1%.
In 2016, the VNAT strives to welcome 8.5 million international visitors and 60 million domestic tourists, reaching 370,000 billion VND from tourism revenue.
The sector has been implementing various measures to renovate and enhance efficiency and professionalism in promotion activities.
The country's tourism sector set up and popularised a plan to promote tourism this year accross localities and businesses.
The VNAT also encouraged localities to participate in some tourism fairs such as Beijing’s International Tourism Expo, JATA tourism expo in Japan and International French Travel Market Top Resa.
