Foreign tourists spend US$145 per day in Ho Chi Minh City

Foreign tourists spent some VND3.3 million (US$145) a day in Ho Chi minh City, according to data from a survey on the city’s tourism market in 2017.
In addition, a foreign visitor stayed 5.21 days on average in Ho Chi Minh City in 2017, according to the survey, jointly conducted by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Bureau.

The survey found that 48% of international respondents had a stay of four to seven days while the number of tourists staying for 8 to 14 days accounted for 40% of the total.

In 2017, Ho Chi Minh City received over 6.38 million foreign tourists. As for the domestic segment, domestic tourists’ average duration of stay was surveyed to be 3.6 days. Some 61.1% of local tourists stayed for one to three days, and 35.1% for four to seven days. The city also received as many as 24.9 million domestic tourists in 2017.
The total number of foreign arrivals in Ho Chi Minh City in the first five months of 2018 was estimated at 3.18 million, a 32% increase from the same period last year, while tourism revenues were estimated at VND51.65 trillion (US$2.2 billion), up 14.8%, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.
The 8th Tourism Promotion Organization for Asian-Pacific Cities (TPO) Forum will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 21 - 22. This was announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism at a press conference on June 15. Themed “Smart tourism”, the event is expected to draw the attendance of about 300 delegates from 25 cities of six TPO member countries.
The forum will focus on measures to improve tourism development capacity of OTP member cities. Accordingly, delegates to the event will also propose initiatives and strategies to promote the development of the tourism sector amidst the fourth industrial revolution.
