At the Hanoi Opera House and August Revolution Square on August 19, 1945, Viet Minh forces staged a grand meeting to appraise armed forces, which directly led to the general uprisings against French rule throughout the country. Nowadays, the site became favorite hub for cultural activities of Hanoians
Located at the axis of Trang Tien and Hang Khay Streets, the Cach Mang Thang Tam (August Revolution) Square appears as one of the major outdoor points of the city and it is surrounded by great architectural works, including the Ha Noi Opera House, Viet Nam History Museum and Hilton Hotel.  It now serves as the place for cultural activities of Hanoians. At night, when the electric lights shimmering, Ha Noi Opera House became splendid, the front steps run along creating the August Revolution Square is a elegant space.
Nearly a century has elapsed with many ups and downs in its development, but the August Revolution Square with its great historic and cultural value remains intact, particularly its blend of ancient and modern architecture which will become the city’s heritage.  It has also proven to be a historic artefact of the cultural and social development of Ha Noi and Viet Nam through different revolution periods.
2. Ta Hien street – Hanoi’s beer corner
You can miss the beer corner (Ta Hien street) for a great night ater midnight in New Year’s Eve. Ta Hien is a small street lying in famous Old Quarter of Hanoi, near Hoan Kiem Lake. The street just stretch 200 meters, but it is one of the most crowded streets in Old Quarter particularly and in Hanoi generally. Ta Hien has the most specific features of both old Hanoi and modern Hanoi. It is named “international crossroad”, drawing many foreign visitors and also Hanoi people.
3. Hanoi’s pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem Lake
Hanoi has already opened walking zones around the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter since Sep 2016. Official data shows nearly 12 million tourists arrived in Hanoi in the first six months of this year, up 8 percent against the same period last year, including five million foreign visitors, up 5 percent. The current pedestrian zone closes off vehicle traffic from 7 p.m. on Friday through to midnight on Sunday. Therefore, you can have a stroll around these fresh iconic place to enjoy the new year’s eve (Sunday night).
4. Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square near Hoan Kiem Lake
As a common sense, this square lying nearby Hoan Kiem Lake, at the crossroad of Dinh le – Dinh Tien Hoang has become a place serving annual “count-down” festival for Hanoians.
Music and dance performance shows will be organised during the new year’s eve to entertain local residents and visitors. Art troupes will perform at cultural houses and public places in all 30 precincts. The Hanoi cinema center will organize mobile movie screenings in rural localities.
Also, a show entitled “Vu khuc anh sang” (Dance of Light) will take place at Dinh Le-Dinh Tien Hoang crossroads. The programme will tell stories about Vietnam’s achievements in 2017 and its aspirations in 2018 through songs and circus performances.
5. The tallest building in Hanoi city: Keangnam Landmark72
