It was Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh’s conclusion at a recent meeting on the site clearance and construction of the Long Thanh International Airport.

In order to ensure the progress of the project, the Deputy Prime Minister asked for close coordination of the relevant agencies in the site clearance for the major items of the airport, including the runway the terminal, and the control tower.

"By the end of 2021, the disbursed capital for the project must reach 79.3% of the allocation,” Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh said.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested the State Bank of Vietnam to facilitate the provision of domestic credit in foreign currency to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) in accordance with the law to implement the project and report to the Prime Minister if any barriers arise.

The People's Committee of Dong Nai Province is tasked with submitting to the Ministry of Transport a plan on building an urban railway connecting Long Thanh International Airport with Ho Chi Minh City.

Under the chair of a deputy prime minister, a regular meeting will be held to review the project implementation progress, Thanh said.

The entire Long Thanh Airport, upon completion after three phases, would have four runways and four passenger terminals. It is designed to handle a capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo per year by 2040.

Once fully operational, the $16-billion airport will become a major international aviation hub in the region.
