The Hanoi Times - EVN Telecom under the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) said it would exploit the Intra-Asia (IA) submarine optical cable system in the first quarter of this year, allowing the company to provide telecommunication connections to transit centres in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, the US and European countries.

It is designed to meet the increasing demand for broadband and other telecommunication services in the coming years, serving as a standby for the safety of the national telecommunication network.

According to EVN Telecom Director Dinh The Phuc, his company has joined the region and the world’s largest fiber optic connection systems, connecting Vietnam with countries around the world through three international transmission portals in Mong Cai, Lang Son and Moc Bai.

Additionally, the company also launched some portals in Hong Kong and the US to create a global connection system.

EVN Telecom now boasts more than 40,000km of optical cable lines connecting 3.5 million subscribers in 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

It is using an OPGW cable system o­n the 500kV, 220kV and 110kV high-tension electric grids, which makes EVN Telecom as the safest transmission network in the nation.

This year, EVN Telecom aims to upgrade its network quality and improve customer care services, striving for a revenue of 4 trillion VND from public telecommunications and raise the number of CDMA subscribers to 4.6 million.
