Enhancing Vietnam - Laos bilateral relationship
By Anh Kiet 16:51, 2016/08/21
Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations Nguyen Van Giau yesterday hosted a reception in Hanoi for Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Xieng Khouang province in Laos Bountone Chanthaphone.

Giau congratulated the success of the 10th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the elections of the eighth NA and the deputies to the municipal and provincial People’s Councils. Speaking highly of Laos’ law-making achievements, especially the adoption of the amended Constitution 2015, the host expressed his belief that the Lao NA will continue making important contributions to realising the Resolution adopted by the 10th National Party Congress and the eighth five-year socio-economic development scheme.

He hailed the exchange of visits by Vietnamese and Lao border provinces, including Nghe An and Xieng Khouang, saying that it will help facilitate experience sharing and bolster comprehensive partnership between the two countries.

Chanthaphone, for his part, said his visit is to learn from Vietnam’s experience in organising the activities of the People’s Councils, and wished that the Vietnamese legislature and localities will continue assisting Laos in this field.

The two sides agreed that despite the gloomy global economic situation, the two countries have still maintained their economic stability and growth. Reviewing cooperation between the two finance ministries over the past years, they held that the partnership has been fruitful, especially in policy-making, personnel training, and sectoral training infrastructure improvement.

Both sides highlighted the significance of their cooperation agreement in the 2016-2020 period signed by the two ministers in April this year, considering the deal as an important orientation for their affiliation in the coming years.
