Direct VN-US container shipping route launched
The Hanoi Times - US-based container shipping firm APL inaugurated a direct container shipping service between Vietnam and the US, the first of its kind, on Wednesday at the Saigon Port-PSA deep-water container terminal in the southern province of Ba Ria–Vung Tau.
The Hanoi Times - US-based container shipping firm APL inaugurated a direct container shipping service between Vietnam and the US, the first of its kind, on Wednesday at the Saigon Port-PSA deep-water container terminal in the southern province of Ba Ria–Vung Tau.
The 4,250-TEU ship APL Denver docked at the terminal in the Thi Vai River to load made-in-Vietnam goods destined for the US market.
As one of the world’s leading transporters, APL now gains a market share of 20% for transporting Vietnamese goods to the US.
Earlier, the goods had to go through transit ports in Singapore or Hong Kong.
The new shipping route will curtail transport time from Việt Nam to the US West Coast, taking just 15 days to reach Seattle and 16 days to Los Angeles, 2-3 days less than the previous time, with unchanged freights.
On the same day, the Tan Cang-Cai Mep deep-water container terminal in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai River in the province received 6,350-TEU ship MOL Premium, the first ever biggest vessel docking at a Vietnam’s port.
So far, two deep-water ports in the 5th group of seaports located in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau have come into operation, offering direct routes to ports in America and Europe that help save time and reduce costs for two-way goods transport.
