Da Nang eyes tourism rep. offices in China, Western Europe
The program aims to develop an information channel to promote the image of Da Nang to tourists in China and Western Europe.
Da Nang is researching the feasibility opening tourism representative offices in China and Western Europe as the city seeks to lure more tourists from those markets.
The information was announced by Nguyen Xuan Binh, vice director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism at a press conference on July 19, the VietNamNet newspaper reported.
“The program aims to develop an information channel to promote the image of Da Nang, organize events that match the city's businesses with those markets,” Binh was quoted as saying.
Many countries in Asia and Southeast Asia have successfully set up their own tourism representative offices in Vietnam, for instance Thai localities have established representative offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Binh added.
According to the official, there are at least three steps to open an representative office in the Chinese and Western European markets. Firstly, Da Nang has to invite a representative to join a program. Secondly, the city has to invite sponsors to participate in the mission. Thirdly, Da Nang will establish a representative office each in China and Western Europe.
Da Nang authorities also expressed concern over "zero dong" tours, meaning all costs related to the tours are paid to operators outside Vietnam. To improve management over this situation, the Da Nang Department of Tourism is tightening control over travel activities.
The municipal tourism sector saw impressive growth during the first half of this year, receiving about four million visitors, up 29.4% year-on-year, of which 1.6 million were foreigners, up 47.1%, according to the department.
The city hopes to welcome nine million visitors by 2020, with 30% being international holidaymakers, and rake in VND31.5 trillion (US$1.38 billion) in revenue.
Earlier, Airbnb, a online marketplace and hospitality service has announced its annual list of the world’s top 10 destinations for 2018, in which Da Nang ranked fifth with a surge in bookings of up to 255%.
