Czech Republic wants to invest in developing Hanoi's transport system

On November 1 afternoon, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People`s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lukas Kaucky, Prague City`s Council member, who has working visit in Vietnam.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lukas Kaucky said that his visit to Hanoi aims to boost wide-ranging cooperation between Prague and Hanoi. At the mean time looking for investment opportunities in Vietnam and Hanoi. At present, the strength of the Czech Republic is one of the best transportation systems in Europe as well as providing modern vehicles, such as electric buses, subway and Czech Republic's experience in the field of vocational training; environmental remediation, such as waste incineration; management of restoration and renovation of cultural works.

"Hanoi is a very beautiful ancient city, with thousands of historical monuments. This is an invaluable cultural asset, needed to be preserved. Czech Republic is ready to cooperate with Hanoi in order to preserve these assets," Deputy Lukas Kaucky shared. Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Doan Toan desired that Hanoi and Praha will strengthen and expand cooperation, tourism development.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lukas Kaucky highly appreciated the friendship and long-standing relationship between Czech Republic and Vietnam over the past time. A huge number of Vietnamese have been living and working in the Czech Republic, contributing to promoting the bilateral relations between the two countries. Prague is willing to work with Hanoi in preserving relic sites, promoting their cultural values for tourism development, he stressed.

He expressed his hope that the relations between Czech Republic and Vietnam in general, Hanoi and Prague in particular would continue to flourish in the future. He suggested that two sides should discuss and sign cooperation programs, development agreements in various fields, especially in the fields that the two sides have strengths, such as transport, urban infrastructure development; building smart cities; promoting the development of tourism, culture, etc.

Czech Republic has a lot of experience in transport infrastructure construction, public transports, garbage disposal, waste water treatment and looks forward to cooperating and sharing experiences with Hanoi, he added. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic also hoped that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in the field of cultural and tourism development, contributing to helping peoples of the two countries better understand about the culture, customs and traditions of the each other; Vietnam, aviation sector of Vietnam, Hanoi to create conditions for opening direct flights from Hanoi to Prague in order to increase the number of tourists from both sides.

Prague wants to share experience and support Hanoi in constructing modern transport infrastructure, hi-tech waste treatment systems, and developing tourism, the Deputy Minister said at his meeting with Vice Chairman of the host municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Doan Toan. The city is willing to work with Hanoi in preserving relic sites, promoting their cultural values for tourism development, he added. 

For his part, Vice Chairman Toan highly appreciated the visiting and working of Czech Republic delegation. Relating to transport infrastructure development, Vice Chairman Toan said that the city plans to build eight elevated highways, open more bus routes and focus on upgrading the quality of the bus service. He hopes that investors of Czech Republic will invested in these projects.

Relating to tourism development, Vice Chairman Toan stressed that Hanoi has a huge potential for tourism, particularly cultural tourism. The city has been rated as an attractive destination by many tourists and prestigious magazines around the world. Hanoi is home to more than 1,000 craft villages. In the first nine months of the year, the capital city welcomed 16 million arrivals of visitors, including nearly three million from overseas, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent. He wished that Hanoi and Czech Public will strengthen cooperation to promote tourism development, enhance the understanding between the two sides in the time to come.

Toan agreed with the guest, saying that Hanoi faces challenges in over loaded urban transport and environmental pollution treatment. Hanoi is calling for investment in infrastructure, environment, tourism, and services projects, Toan said, pledging that Hanoi will support Czech investors in the city.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lukas Kaucky exchanged about the government building cooperation and the smart city. The two sides agreed to set the Czech Embassy to be the bridge to coordinate with relevant agencies of the Central and Hanoi City for deployment.
