Chinese hackers infiltrate Vietnamese websites

The Vietnam Information Safety Association is investigating security breaches to as many as 745 websites in Vietnam during the National Day holiday, the agency announced on its website securitydaily.net on September 5.

Securitydaily.net reported that it appears Vietnamese retailers were the subject of a massive breach that may have exposed customer credit and debit card information at the start of the holiday season.
 

 


Based on a preliminary analysis, the agency reports Chinese hackers attacked 289 Vietnamese websites on August 28, 84 websites on September 2 (National Day), and 373 websites on September 4. The attacks also affected government (.gov.vn) and education organizations (.edu.vn).

Ngo Tuan Anh, deputy head in charge of internet security of Bach Khoa Internetwork Security Centre (BKAV), a leading internet security firm in Vietnam, confirmed the attacks on Vietnamese websites originated from Chinese internet locations.

Nguyen Hong Son, a Bkav specialist in internet security, suggested website managers should disable PUT method of WebDAV to ensure security. It is also essential to use anotherplug-in to replace WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning), he added.

Recently, well-known security software company BitDefender ranked Vietnam among 10 countries in the world with a high risk of security leaks.
