Cat Ba and Thom named among the best beach in Southeast Asia
Cat Ba island and Thom has been listed as one of the top best beaches in Southeast Asia, according to Thrillist, online media brand covering food, drink, travel and entertainment.
Wild and craggy Cat Ba Island, in Vietnam’s spectacular Ha Long Bay, has been tamed and civilized in recent years. Head away from civilization to Cat Co 2, the most relaxed of Cat Ba’s three beaches, which is dotted with bungalows offering views of the bay’s spectacular limestone mountain islands, the Thrillist wrote.
In 2017, Cat Ba island has received 2 million visitors, 450,000 of whom were foreigners. This has been the highest and most remarkable numbers for the tourism of the so-called “Pearl Island”, according to Hai Phong Department of Tourism.
In recent years, tourism infrastructure in Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city, has been strongly invested in. The environment remains preserved towards sustainable ecotourism orientation. The Dinh Vu-Cat Hai bridge has become operational, in addition to Hai Phong-Hanoi Highway, Hanoi - Lao Cai Highway, and Cat Bi International Airport. This convenient transport system provides momentum for Cat Ba island to become a national and international tourist attraction.
Meanwhile, Thom Beach, Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s last paradise island is a victim of its own success: the beaches along the western side of Phu Quoc are crawling with resorts and awash with their trash.
Avoid them and instead brave the rutted dirt track that links the beaches and jungle on the eastern side of Phu Quoc as far as Thom Beach. Nestled in the forest that dominates this island, Thom Beach is too far off the beaten track for the coach tourists, but brings in enough intrepid backpackers to sustain the local snack shacks and their surprisingly delicious homebrewed beer.
