Bus companies resume operation after inter-provincial departure relocation
Ngoc Hai - Nguyen Tung 09:09, 2017/07/28
The last 53 buses serving the route from My Dinh bus terminal in Hanoi to Ninh Binh province were sent to the terminals of Giap Bat and Yen Nghia on July 20, ending the largest relocation of inter-provincial bus departures in Hanoi. The relocation is aimed at gathering the buses serving the same routes in one terminal.
Even though the relocation has created difficulties for bus enterprises but they are resuming operations.

Since January 1st this year, the Hanoi authority has replanned 691 interprovincial buses  with 20,396 departures per month or 680 departures per day,  focusing mainly on My Dinh, Giap Bat and Nuoc Ngam, the Hanoi’s  3 major bus terminals. The replanning is scheduled to end on July 20th but since the first days of the departure relocation, 90% of the buses have been relocated.

According to the Head of the Hanoi Transport Management Division  Dao Viet Long, after the relocation, order and traffic safety in Ring Road 3 and My Dinh terminal have  improved and congestions has been reduced. The terminals of Nuoc Ngam, Giap Bat, Yen Nghia and Gia Lam have prepared to accomodate the incoming buses and  work out schedules to better serve the people interprovincial circulation, especially during the last Lunar New Year festival.

Dao Viet Long said that the change of departure terminal has created headache for bus enterprises as the usual customers are not familiar with the new departure terminal. At first, some enterprises even protested the city’s authorities over the departure relocation. To help bus enterprises resume normal operations, the Hanoi city bus company has increased frequencies among the  terminals and connecting the city’s center with the terminals. The relocated buses are enjoying parking fee reduction at their new terminals in the initial stage. “So far, the relocation of buses have been completed”, said Dao Viet Long.

The enterprises with buses relocated are concerned about the rampant operation of unlicensed buses, giving way to unfair competition and causing loss to legal bus operators. To address this issue, the Hanoi Transport Department has increased inspection and fine. The Department also plans to  instal CCTVs to enhance monitoring of unlicensed buses.

By gathering buses sharing the same destination in one terminal, the Hanoi Transport Department will work out a fairer distribution of buses between the two adjacent terminals of Giap Bat and Nuoc Ngam. The distribution plan will be submitted to the Hanoi People’s Committee and the Ministry of Transport by the end of this month.
