This activity shows the determination of the capital's residents to keep the environment clean.

More than 250 officials joined hands to collect garbage and waste materials and planted 2,000 ornamental plants along the riverbank.

The activity aimed to use collective strength and creativity to clean up the environment along the Red River and celebrate the 18th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Hanoi and the 70th anniversary of the capital's Liberation Day (October 10).

Do Thi Duy Nhien, chairwoman of the Ba Dinh District Committee of the Vietnam  Fatherland Front, said the organization's local branch wants to promote positivity and make the environment green, clean and beautiful.

"We hope that with the joint efforts of the local authorities and people, the landscape will become more beautiful and the quality of life of the residents in the area will be enhanced," she said.

According to Le Thanh Luyen, Vice-chairman of the Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Cong Vi Ward, Ba Đình District, the waste has accumulated over a long period of time.

"When it rains, the stench becomes overwhelming, seriously affecting the landscape and the lives of local people," he said.

Luyen believed that this activity would benefit local residents and that the timing was more appropriate than ever.

"This activity shows the determination of the capital's residents to keep the environment clean. Everyone is enthusiastic about taking part in the clean-up, even in adverse weather conditions," he said.

To clean up the approximately 10-hectare area along the Red River, Ba Dinh District authorities have been actively removing encroachments, collecting long-standing illegally dumped waste, and restoring the riverbank and riverbed to their original state to ensure flood drainage since mid-2024.

With the enthusiastic and responsible participation of the district's Vietnam  Fatherland Front and other public agencies in environmental protection, the district expects Phuc Xa Ward to be a healthy and beautiful place along the Red River.
